Below are a list of some of our favourite things about summer.
1. Pinot Grigio
Niagara on the Lake has some amazing Pinot Grigio wines, and after a tour of their wineries last year, we became a big fan of Pinot Grigio from that particular region. Below is the Pelee Island Winery’s 2004 Pinot Gris. It’s cool, crisp, and light, which is very refreshing on a hot summer day.
2. Flip Flops
Love, love, love the convenience of wearing flip flops! Who doesn’t? Our favourite brand is the Reef brand. They are the only ones that we’ve found that don’t cause blisters, especially in the front, because they usually use simple material, not plastic. Just remember to do everyone a favour, and get a pedicure. You too, gentlemen.
Isabel makes the best guacamole. Serve with some yummy chips and pinot grigio and your friends will love you. As soon as she makes some, we’ll upload a picture for you to see.
4. Extended Daylight
In the midst of winter it can get dark by as early as 4:30 p.m., so having daylight last until nearly 9:00 p.m. is really appreciated.
We live in Canada. All Canadians worship their patios. We’re lucky enough to have outdoor space where we live and have an awesome canopy.
6. Catch up Reading (especially in a hammock)
Reading books that you’ve meant to read, but just haven’t had the time to read. Summer seems like the perfect time to do so, especially if you’re able to get away and devote a week or two to lying around on a beach, reading. Summer is also a great time for chick-lit reading. Marilyn is eager to read Girls Like Us by Sheila Weller, and Isabel is eager to finish Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.
7. Sleeping with the window open
Great except if you have noisy neighbours. If you don’t, then letting in the summer night air is so calming. Of course, you have to make sure it’s safe to leave your window open, which is often reliant on where your window and home is located. Safety should always come ahead of comfort.
8. Day trips
Putting your to-do lists on hold, and taking off on a day trip to a nearby town, lakefront, or park, can be a great stress-reliever. If we can’t get away from the city, we often make day trips nearby. They’re great to go on your own or with a friend or two.
The smell of sunscreen reminds us of the beach, which we love. Besides, it’s good for you to wear sunscreen, and you should be wearing it everyday. We recently found one, L’Occitane En Provence’s Angelique Bouclier Radieux SPF40, that’s amazing and has a lot of natural products, and it doesn’t leave your skin feeling oily.
10. Our Mom’s Garden
Our Mom has being gardening for as long as we can remember. She blooms herself as she herself prepares her garden to grow.
