Hey there

We're Isabel & Marilyn

We run Letters and Lipstick. A lifestyle blog dedicated for the woman who wants to smell the roses, eat the slice(s) of cake, and learn a thing or two along the way.

I’m always looking for ways to improve my life. Sometimes that means I look at big picture things, like what I want to change in my professional or personal life, and other times it’s small and simple things.

Either way, these changes can have a big impact overtime.

Too busy to read this post right now? Save for later!

Ever since I stopped drinking coffee, which is something I thought I’d never be able to do, I have been excited to try different drinks to replace for my mid-afternoon break. My goal was to at least to find something hot and tasty to drink when someone asks me to go for coffee, which is not so much about the drink, but about the social connection.

Just because you’re perhaps trying to find a coffee alternative, you probably don’t want to lose the social aspect of enjoying a beverage with someone, or by yourself while you enjoy some down time. Drinking water is great, but it’s not exactly the kind of drink you think of when you think of sipping while you chat with a friend or catch up on your social media.

Good news: After trying a few mediocre substitutes, I found an amazing recipe on Downshiftology, a website by Lisa Bryan, who shares paleo-friendly recipes. Her recipe for a Chai Latte tea not only fits the criteria of being hot and tasty, but the ingredients are spices and other items that are also good for you.

When I tried this recipe last winter, I was so happy to have found it and a little mad at myself for not having tried it before. I admit, I was initially a little turned off trying this recipe because I thought it looked too fancy to not be complicated. I was wrong.

Once I poured the steaming hot latte into two mugs for my family, we took our first sips, then looked at each other in shock.

It was amazing.

It’s safe to say that it was the best Chai Latte I have ever had. For a moment, while cozying up inside during the snowstorm that delivered us over 60 cm of snow, I may have said that it was the best drink I’d ever had. It was that good.

Spicy, sweet, and good for you, this recipe is easier to make than you might think. You probably already have most of the ingredients in your kitchen.

If you’re like me, and always looking for way to improve your life, which includes your health, then try this drink. Imagine how good you’ll feel knowing you’re not consuming any sneaky preservatives.

Plus, you can make seconds without going back into a line up at your local coffee shop.

We share a love of Portugal, Chihuahuas, coffee, binge-worthy tv, pull-on-your-heartstrings rom coms, and our amazing mom.

We're different in a lot of ways too.

Isabel loves Historical Fiction, antiques, and life in the countryside while Marilyn prefers Creative Nonfiction, art, and city life.

And of course, we both love literature and appreciate a kick-ass lipstick.
